Introduction
Teddy Bear day Care is a 8 place licensed Home Daycare for children aged 12 weeks to 12 years. The Daycare is run on the main floor of our home with entry to outside space from the living area to a fenced yard. We operate Monday- Friday between 6:30am and 5:30 pm.
Program description
Type of service provided
At Teddy bear Day Care I strongly believe that children learn best though play. I feel it is my responsibility to provide interesting , stimulating toys, equipment and environment to
facilitate this. I provide equipment to meet a wide range of developmental stages. Each child is different and grows and develops to their own personal timetable.
A lot of ‘programming’ happens in the moment taking advantage of everyday learning and the children interests. The children are asked what they would like to learn about or I base activities on current interests and develop a theme around it. I feel by truly listening to the children and their families it shows the respect that they each deserve.
Emphasis on the program is quality care in a family like setting while actively giving the children a chance to develop social, physical, emotional, language and cognitive skills. A balance of care that supports families as the main care giver. Programming is centered around children’s interest with the process of “doing” being the learning outcome rather than an end result to take home. This way the children develop and learn new skills that prepares them in readiness for school. Each day our activities include circle time, lots of stories, Music singing action games and rhymes playing and sometimes making simple instruments.
My background, home and family
About Me I am Gill, I have worked with children for the last twenty five years. I trained as a early childhood educator both in the UK and Canada. I am passionate about offering quality preschool experiences and education through play. I feel that a rich learning experiences before a child enters school sets the foundation for all future learning and helps shape the adult they will become.
My family I have a husband, Neil who works from the house upstairs in his own office space when he isn’t on the road looking after the pig world. I also have five children, of which four still live at home. Felicity, Alan, Harris and Robert. Tom has left home and is making his own way in the world.
The pets We have three cats Smarty who isn’t. He is a grey and white fluff ball, April a black and white rather overweight and standoffish and Wanabee who loves being admired and is a brown tabby. All three cats are very used to children having grown along side mine. Theodore is our youngest cat and the sweetest cat with kids I have ever seen.
The Teddy Bears Completing our family are the Teddy Bears predominantly Storm, Gregory, Coco Bean and Azam. Fred belongs to Neil and often comes to play with the children. The Teddies each have developed personalities and often have the same struggles as children do. The children at the daycare really help the bears learn about sharing and taking turns and being kind which is some times difficult for bears and little ones.
Inclusion for all children working for all families
Inclusion means children of all abilities have equal acess to and participate meaningfully in childcare programs. When children are together friendships develop, social skills develop and acceptance of each other is fostered.
Community inclusion
Every child is able to attend typical activities in the community including early learning and childcare facilities. This means that a child’s additional support does not hinder a families ability to enrole in any program including employment and schooling. It also means families with additional support needs have the same access to the number of hours and days of attendance available to every to every family. Children of all abilities are accepted into Teddy Bear Day Care. The waiting list identifies children with additional support needs to ensure supports are in place upon enrolment. Family myself and child development team work together for the best interest of eth child’s additional needs and personality.
Inclusive environment
I provide materials ad develop activities in such a way to meet all children’s individual developmental stages and encourage developing independence. For example fat paint brushes and height adjustment equipment. The
equipment and the room are set up in a way to ensure all children have equal access to materials and learning is a positive experience.
Individual early learning a
Teddy Bear Day Carend childcare
I observe and document a child’s individual abilities and interests this is then incorporated into each day. Private space is provided for alone time and sensory toys are accessible as needed. I make adaptations to activities to include all children.
Meaningful participation
All children have an opportunity to play together, this way all children develop friendships, a sense of belonging, dignity, confidence and equality while they develop meaningful relationships with each other. Additional communication skills ie PECS and sign would be incorporated into the program for use for all children. Outing and field trips will be planned so all children can attend and enjoy the trip. Supports when required, are provided in natural environment with peers.
Family centers practices
Each child and family has a unique with a wide range of abilities and variety of needs. Every child’s abilities are considered and their needs are met so each child develops to their fullest potential. This is done with supportive approach that builds on each child’s strengths. Together with families we celebrate growth of new skills and successes. I support families by ensuring their child development and needs are recognised so each family can make appropriate choices for their child. There is acknowledgment and respect as families make decisions about early intervention options and that they understand their child best. I speak to each Family every day. We share information about the child’s day and evening. I recognise needs change from day to day and though out the day.
Collaboration between partners
I would attend individual programming planning meetings to discuss the desires of the family, the goals from other professionals involved and the abilities and interests of the child. With trust and respect appropriate supports are planned, coordinated and complimentary between daycare and home. Existing supports and community resources are used and adapted to meet these goals.
Staff supports
Staff are required to complete a number of hours of professional development each year. Some of these hours are devoted to inclusion training. I would seek and attend additional workshops and training for identified care needs. Any medical procedures needed would be taught by a registered care professional.
Items needed from home
Comfort objects such as a cuddly toy and blankets
Soothers if used
Baby formula
Diapers
Diaper cream
Wipes (older children can benefit from these too)
Spare clothing socks underwear, shorts pants skirt. Shirts light jacket, sweater. Sunhat.
In winter and wet months rain jacket/ wet pants rubber boots, snow pants, several pairs of gloves or mitts warm hat and warm boots. Please send children in play clothing that wont matter of it gets stained.
Please label everything in lower case lettering. Not only does this help the return of the children’s things it helps the children recognize their written name.
Extra supplies can be left at daycare and replenished as needed rather than bringing things each day.
Please do not send:
I have severe allergies to scents please do not wear any in my home as this can leave too ill to look after your children. Watch hairspray, strong deodorants, perfumes hair gels etc. I seem unaffected by bug spray and most sunscreens.
If you smoke in your home please leave cuddly blankets and toys at my house and I will launder them for you. I apologise in advance but should coats or clothing smell strongly of
cigarette smoke and I have a reaction too this I reserve the right to place items in the porch. This is not meant to be a judgment call in any way. But to protect my health and that of my family.
7
Candy or treats as these do not meet the nutrition guidelines the Daycare follows.
Toys that run off batteries or have parts to them.
Electronic games,
Scarves or hoodies with strings as these can be a strangulation hazard.
Medication in children’s back packs including such items as adult headache remedies, cough candies.
Art and messy play
I believe that all children are creative given the tools and materials to work with. I strongly support children in exploring and experiencing art materials not an end result. We get messy (very messy) Children clean, tables clean and clothing sent shouldn’t matter of it doesn’t clean. I do provide smocks for the children but would rather see a child have fun than force them into a smock because they or clothing may get dirty. Our art and craft activities often incorporate a recycling element and unconventional approach. All activities are safe and age appropriate.
Programs and routines
On arrival children and parents are greeted and children engaged in play or can choose from many free play activities and centers.
Morning activities will include:
A circle time with songs music and story time, noisy action games and songs.
Snack time is provided around 9:30 which is usually a good chance to talk about the night before and discuss they day ahead, a chance for all children to offer ideas for what they would like to do.
Outside play will often be a morning visit to one of the playgrounds or a local field trip. Including the library, store and post office.
Lunch is usually around noon.
After lunch all children are expected to have around thirty minutes quiet time laying down. Younger children will have a story with the older children in the nap room then continue to sleep in the nap room. Older preschool children no longer needing a nap will rest on the sofas or mats in the living area with books then quiet play-time will include school readiness activities such as letter and number recognition, writing their name. puzzles stories and quite table top activities including play-doh and art area. Children will be encouraged to play quietly and certain toys will be unavailable during this time such as large block play the instruments.
School age children and reliable preschooler may have indirect supervision in the fenced yard where they can make more noise
as the fenced yard is away form the sleeping area. Once they have had a rest period.
9
No child will be expected to remain laying down if they are not asleep after thirty minutes.
As infants are not usually on a sleep schedule that fits in with daycare I will do my best to make them comfortable in the stroller or van etc if we are out and about during their usual sleep time.
Children are picked up from Souris school at three fifteen.
Snack is provided around 3:30
School age children have an opportunity to talk about there day
Outside play may include yard play or an outing to the playground.
Communication between the daycare and home.
If you need to contact me during the day I can be reached on the house number 483-3159 or cell phone 483-0281. If I do not answer it is because it is inconvenient to do so please feel free to leave a message on the 483-0281 number as this is only used by the daycare. I do not advise leaving a message with my children as years of training has still not resulted in messages being successfully passed on. I do check messages during quite times however I find e-mail is probably the best way to contact me if you are looking for information. [email protected] . Should you feel the need for a longer conversation it may be better to phone me in the evening on the house number when there are not children around, For two reasons some conversations are not appropriate for young ears and it means time I should be spending with the
children taken away from them. Should we both feel the need to meet and talk together time can be arranged for this and if
10
necessary a substitute brought in to care for the other children. This would also apply for children attending the daycare who have extra support services in place for team meetings to ensure full inclusion to the program.
As parents are the experts of there children daily communication helps link home and daycare more smoothly. Please inform me of changes in the family that may effect your child. This is in no way meant to be intrusive but to make sure the right support is on place for your child when they need it. Helpful information would include changes in family structure such a parental separation or additions to the family. Illness or loved relative moving away. Even pet death can greatly effect a child.
Please inform me of any child information record changes such as e-mails, phone numbers and emergency pick up persons.
Nap time
Our typical nap time is between 12:45 and 3:00. The nap room is just off the front door. Please avoid arrival and pick up during this time without prior notice as this is very disruptive to sleeping children. It is also very hard on a child to be expected to arrive and either straight away be expected to participate in nap or quite time. I would also appreciate e-mails or text during this time. My own family and friends have been asked to follow the same guidelines as have friends of the family and my children.
Should it be necessary to pick up your child during this time please let me know in advance and I will have then ready for you.
Policy statements
Safety drills
Fire drills are required to be conducted on a monthly basis I often do this more often if I have children attending on different days so that all children are aware of the drill in place. Smoke detectors are tested at this time also. This gives the children a chance to get used to the sound and respond accordingly. A picture sequence of what to do is posted and discussed with the children. The fire extinguisher is located in the kitchen . Smoke detectors are on each level of the house and an additional smoke detector in the nap room.
In the event of a fire or smoke alarm sounding all children, parents, visitors and staff stop what they are doing and head out of the nearest safe exit. Children who are not yet walking or too young to recognise the need to exit quickly will be carried. How this will be done will depend of current numbers of non walking children that day. I can carry two children. Should I have three n children that need to be carried I will put them in a laundry basket and carry them out together. The laundry basket will be kept in the front entrance way. Should we need to exit out of the back door this is the family laundry area and the children would be transported the same way in a hastily emptied basket. With regular attendance of very young children a stroller will be set up in the front porch and children may be transported this way. We
will initially meet on the museum steps opposite the house as this is a relatively sheltered area, some what enclosed 911 would be
12
called at this time if needed or appropriate service. I.e. hydro.
If need be we would transfer to one of two locations . Forbidden flavours 39 crescent avenue , (204) 483 3006. This location is about a block away and is always open during daycare operation hours. This location would not be used in extreme cold conditions as the children would not be suitably dressed for the weather during a quick evacuation. During extreme weather conditions we would locate to 15 Sowden road, the yellow house opposite my house immediately next to the swing bridge. We would take with us the first aide kit, emergency numbers and attendance sheets. The backpack contains some activities such a playing cards and paper/markers books at all times. It is understandable that during such times children will be upset I would have an additional care giver come and help me once we are relocated. I would contact all parents as soon as possible via phone I ask that you come and pick up your child as soon as possible.
Specific emergency plans are posted in the center with a floor plan that details exit locations. It is every person responsibility who enters the daycare to familiarize themselves with the evacuation policy.
Weather safety
Please dress your children according to the weather as we try to get outside everyday. We do not go outside in weather colder than a wind chill factor of -25. My yard is very shady so hot weather isn’t usually a problem and on very hot days I provide a wading pool with close supervision. I use common sense about not going far in extremely hot weather.
In summer months please provide sunscreen and bug spray light
clothing and a water proof jacket so we can still get out even if rain threatens. Most children are pretty good a gauging if they
13
need to wear a jacket/sweater or not as weather changes from one season to another. Unless they are at risk I tend to let children learn the natural consequence of being cold or hot and give then plenty opportunity to change there mind later and run inside and either put a jacket away or get one.
During the winter months it may be in the children’s best interest to be transported to and from school in my Van as I live several blocks away from the school. On these runs to school other children may be left with a substitute care giver briefly including my husband Neil should they be sleeping etc. He has been cleared by the same police checks as my self. As he works from the home he will be a familiar person to the children.
Field trip policies and safety procedures
Upon signing a registration form parents consent to there children’s participation in general daily outings (walks, trips to local parks, every day grocery pick up such as milk and bread. We will usually walk but may take the van if the weather is very cold or extremely hot. I have a valid drivers licence on my van and 1,000,000 million dollars liability. On all trips and outings the first aid kits and emergency info and consent cards come with us. I carry the children’s information on me to protect their privacy.
Prior to each outing the children will be told where they are going and what the boundaries and limits are. They will be told what to do if they find themselves parted from the group. (Stay where you are and listen for your name being called) Children not in a stroller will either hold onto the stroller or use the buddy system holding hands with another child and be walking in front of me
where I can see them. Every one holds hands to cross roads.
If a child should become lost on an outing, the other children will
14
be safely cared for while I look for the missing child . Depending on the sort of outing we are on I would alert security to help me with a description of the child and first name. If a search is unsuccessful 911 will be contacted along with the parents /guardians. A serious incident report will be filed I hope such a occurrence will never happen, but with preventative procedures in place and a plan to follow I feel prepared.
For full day trips away from Souris I will usually take an extra staff member with me.
Local outings
Each day we spend time outside either in the yard or hiking around town and to the park to explore the walking trails, feed the wild birds or playing the sand-hills and playground. Children participate in making their own snacks and we get groceries to do this. We also have local filed trips so the children can learn more about their community. Such as the library, recycling depot and museums.
Hygiene and health promotion
Liquid hand soap and individual face cloths are used as both cloths and hand towels. Each child has their own colour and hooks in the bathroom. All staff and children will wash their hands before and after diapering, eating, using the washroom and food preparation and after sneezing/coughing nose blowing and outside play. Both hand washing and teeth brushing will be supervised.
As children get older and more independent respecting their own and other children privacy will be encouraged. If children have difficulty doing a good job of wiping please send pre-moistened wipes to help them out. I do not mind wiping a child but encourage children to respect this private part of their body as their own and become independent as soon as possible. Children will be asked to flush the toilet after use and then wash their hands.
Single use tissues will be available at all times for wiping noses then thrown away. The children will be encouraged to sneeze to cough into their elbow rather than there hands to minimize the spread of germs. Then wash there hands afterwards or use wipes if we are out and about.
Diapering takes place on the change table in the nap room away from the kitchen. Diapers will be disposed off in a lined garbage can and emptied each night. Children will usually use the bathroom off the nap room unless children are sleeping then there is another downstairs bathroom off the kitchen available for their use. I will leave a note on the children pin board when diapers or supplies are getting low
General cleaning and hygiene
Bedding is washed weekly. Dishes and cutlery will be washed in the dishwasher, the children have their own separate plastic dishes and cutlery from the family. These are also stored in a separate cupboard. Plastic toys will be either washed in the dish washer or sanitized using the four step method wash, rinse sanitize air dry on a rotating basis to clean and offer the children a variety of toys. Fabric toys dress up clothes will also be laundered regularly. All cleaning supplies will be stored up high in a locked cupboard. Plastic bags knives and sharp objects will be inaccessible to the children.
Food storage and preparation area
The daycare has its own separate fridge for everyday foods, snacks and drinks that require refrigeration. Water comes from the family water cooler and frozen foods are stored in the family freezer in a separate basket. All fridges and freezers have child resistant locks in place. Food is preparation areas will be kept clean and dry. All hand towels and dish cloths etc will be laundered daily. Tables and counter tops will be washed down with bleach water solution after use.
Eating and drinking
All children sit down to eat and drink. They may not leave the table with food in their mouths and are discouraged from silliness and that leads to laughter and possible choking.
Snack and meal times
The Day Care follows a two weekly menu approved by the dietician. This is posted in entrance on that parent notice board. I provide am and pm snacks and lunch. Water is available though out the day as a drink and either juice water or milk depending on the meal plan that day. I drink Soya milk due to allergies and often the children ask to try this or choose to drink this too. All children are expected to be seated when they eat and drink or have a bottle. I do not allow children walk around with a bottle or have one in their crib to fall asleep with. Should your child need a bottle to nap I will give this to them before they go to bed. This is to ensure that there is not a choking hazard and prevent dental problems.
Because peanuts are a common allergen pea butter or seed butter will be served as an alternative to peanut butter.
Reasons for exclusion from care due to illness.
The following conditions require a child to stay home until they are free of symptoms
Unexplained pain
Acute cold, (Fever, sore throat, green/yellow runny nose or eyes, he child may return to daycare when energy and general well being returns to there normal.)
Difficulty breathing, wheezing, persistent cough that wakes the child from sleep.
Fever above 100*F / 38*C with out being controlled by a fever reducing medication.
Sore throat or difficulty swallowing
Infected eyes or skin, weepy yellow green pus.
Undiagnosed rash
Children with a known or suspected communicable disease.
9. Vomiting two or more times in twenty four hours three episode of diarrhoea. Children may return to care when a full twenty four hours has passed form the last episode.
Parents are required to inform me of any serious illness or communicable disease/ Contagious illness with in twenty four hours If their child or family members are effected to allow me time to inform other parents and health unit. This will always done with confidentiality in mind and the information will go out as “we have a case of such and such at the daycare and a list of symptoms,)
Medications
All Medications are stored in a locked box so inaccessible to the children. Should children need over the counter medications such as Tylenol for pain or cold remedies please ensure these are in the original container with original labels. Please provide a correct dosage spoon or syringe. This will be sent home for the parent to wash so provide extra if more than one does is needed during the day. No medication will be administered with out a Permission to administer medication form completed. Time date and dosage will be noted on the form.
For prescription medication only the directions on the bottle will be acceptable. I will need to know the last time the child had a does to ensure medication is given at the right intervals though out the day. In the case of antibiotics please try to have a prescription that allows the child to receive medication at home of at all possible.
With Any prescription medication children may not return to
daycare until they have had a full 24 hrs of dosage this means 24hrs after the first dose and not just overnight. This is to protect my family and the other children from infection. Should one of my family members be sick I expect them to distance them selves from the Daycare children until they are feeling better. If your child is too sick to follow usual daycare activities including singing, dancing and going outside they probably need to be at home resting and getting better. If your child should become sick while in my care I will call a parent/ guardian to come and pick the child up immediately. If the parents can not be reached the alternative care number will be called. The sick child will either be cared for in the nap room or resting on the washable sofa until picked up.
In the event a child arrives too ill to participate actively in the day the parents will be asked to find alternative care for the day. Allergies symptoms and common colds do not require a child to be excluded from care.
Children requiring regular medical care procedures or allergies
Children will not be excluded form the daycare because of a medical need. However a URUS form and appropriate care plan will need to be in place before first day of care.
Pick up and drop off policy
Children will only be released to their parents /guardians or alternative contact person. This means the designated person named on the child information record and not spouse of said person etc. All persons authorized to pick up child should be sixteen years or over. Consideration may be made for a regular younger baby sitter or responsible sibling. If there is a custody order or other such court order that prohibits contact or picking up child a copy of this must be left with me in the Childs file. In the event of an unauthorized pick up the child will not be released and the parent will be contacted immediately.
Children will not be released to any parent that is or appears to be or is under the influence of alcohol or drugs or appears incapable of offering safe care. Instead another person from the child information file will be contacted to come pick up the child and social services will be contacted for advice.
Parents must walk their child into the house and make sure I am aware of there arrival before the parents leaves. Should a parent arrive before 7:30 am please stay with your child until the daycare opens during this time care of your child will be yours. Once a parent /guardian arrives to pick a child up from daycare care of your child transfers to the parent or guardian but with the expectation that the daycare rules are respected and followed. Please make sure you and your child leave before operational hours end. Should you need to talk to me leave time for this.
Please do not arrive early or pick up late except in the case of extreme emergency.
Transportation by vehicle
If we go on a filed trip further than Souris or a winter school run we will travel in my Van. Each child will be buckled into their own seatbelt or in an appropriate car seat for weight and height. Regardless of what a family preference is for travel children will only travel with me in a recommended seat for height and weight. Should this be unacceptable to a family then the child will be excluded from a trip and the usual fees apply.
I will give at least twenty four hours notice about a field-trip.
Infants travel rear facing until a year
Children up to 40lbs forward facing Car Seat or until their middle ear reaches the top of the car seat
Children 40+ lbs in boaster seat until their middle ear reaches the top of the car seat or they exceed the weight restriction. When this happened they will use the Van seat belts.
Parents will be responsible for supplying a car seat.
. My preference is to walk when ever we can so please ensure the children have plenty of warm clothing in winter and sunscreen and hats in summer.
Playground safety
Please do not send scarves mittens on strings or draw string hooded sweaters or jackets. These can be a strangulation hazard on play equipment. I follow a “if you cant reach it your not big enough to use the equipment policy. I do not lift children onto equipment i.e. . monkey bars high climbers. If a child is too short to reach the equipment can not safely be used by that child. As they get older and become more physically competent I will support
them as they try out there new skills. To prevent battles I ask that as parents on a field trip with us or outings during daycare hours that this is respected to maintain consistency of safety rules.
Other equipment safety
I check the daycare yard equipment on a regular basis and check for hazards when we are out before I let the children play.
Toys are checked regularly kept clean and thrown away and replaced should they become unsafe. I check recalls on toys when buying from garage sales etc. Room arrangement is altered to respect the age and stage of development for the children in care. For example some arts and crafts toys may be put of reach if I were not able to directly offer constant supervision such as cooking a meal when younger children are in care. Older children are encouraged to work at the high table where their smaller toys and activities are out of reach of a younger children.
We spend time outside either in the yard or hiking around town and to the park to explore the walking trails, feed the wild birds
or playing the sand-hills and playground. Should you need to pick your child up at a different hours form your usual departure time but still during operational hour please let me know so if we are out I can let you know where to pick your child up from.
Substitute care giver
If I am sick or have an appointment a substitute care giver will be employed for the period of time I am away to ensure that care is still provided. I will always do my best to schedule appointments that do not conflict with offering care to the
23
children. Occasionally this will not be possible such as appointment in Winnipeg. Parents will be aware ahead of time of a change of care giver should you choose to withdraw your child when alternative care is provided the usual fees will apply.
Behaviour management
Here at Teddy bear day Care behaviour management centers around respect responsibility and good manners. Each child is expected to be a responsible respectful member of our group. This ranges from cleaning up toys that have been played with to taking turns with age appropriate chores. Such as wiping of tables, sweeping the floor. Everyone who enters the center has a responsibility for using politeness and good manners with myself, the children and each other.
All rules center around these respect and responsibility guidelines this ensures a safe caring environment for everyone. The “rules “ in place would be those that effect the safety and well being of the children attending the center. Under no circumstances will physical punishment ever be used or tolerated in the daycare center. A child in my care will never be made to feel bad about a mistake or belittled for a behaviour. Behaviour management will be in the form of guidance or distraction depending on age or developmental need. Positive guidelines and clear limits will be in place to help prevent problems. This will be used in the form of. “Please walk inside” rather than “don’t run“. This gives positive reinforcement of the behaviour I would like to see not a negative comment. All limits will be explained at a level a child can understand giving them information of why the limit is in place.
For example “when we walk inside we move safely.” Rather than
“don’t run inside bad child” I constantly reinforce good behaviour
with a smile, hugs or noticing what they are doing right. I do not use a reward system such as stickers.
When intervening with a situation I would ensure that I bend down to child level and have their attention. If I am dealing with two children I would act as a mediator encouraging them to work with me to problem solve and come up with a agreement and solution they can both feel satisfied with. By working with open ended questions and verbalizing a problem children can often problem solve with minimal guidance. “I see two children want to play with the toy at once and we only have one toy what can we do to solve this?” With younger children encourage taking turns in a fun way. Sometimes a choice will be needed “you can wait your turn for the toy or you can play with another toy of your choice that is free. Feelings will be acknowledged first for example “I know it’s really hard to wait and you really want that toy but snatching and grabbing is not okay. Some time we feel angry or frustrated however I can’t let you hurt anyone so you need to find some where else to play.”
Time away/time out will only be used as a last resort to cool down should a child be so out of control that they, others or property are endangered of being hurt.
Under no circumstances will physical punishment be used or ever tolerated by anyone at the center.

Please note that a my husband Neil Robertson may or not be aware of fees for each family. I can assure you he will always respect confidentiality. He is better at financial programs than I am and for this reason I may need to ask his help from time to time. All daycare information is either locked in a filing cabinet or safely on my personal/ work computer. Even my husband can’t get on to this computer without my first typing in the password
Care needs
Priority is given to full time care needs. Then to children in kindergarten who have previously attended the program. Previous enrolment into the program does not guarantee a school age place as these places are limited. I reserve the right to terminate a part time attending child/children with a full months notice should he opportunity arise to fill a full time spot. Part time children are considered as attending on consistent day each week but not sharing the week with another child to make up a full time place. Sharing the week with another child or paying full
fees and reserving place during the week full fees guarantees care when needed such as with shift work with in normal daycare
operational hours. Therefore considered a full time place. Fees are due every two weeks payable Friday after the first start week of childcare. Prior agreement to a childcare need is subject to full fees regardless of child attendance.
Drop in care
When space allows I do accept drop in care the usual fees apply and are payable in advance for this care service. Care is only provided once a registration form is completed.
Care of parents
The coffee pot is usually on in the morning you are very welcome to pour your self a cup in a sealed travel mug and take it to work with you. Parents deserve care as well as children J .
Withdrawal of child from the program
Two weeks minimum written notice is required when with drawing a child from the program. This notice is require by either the first or third Monday of the month as this helps keep my
finances straight. For example should notice be given the second Friday of the month calculation of two week notice will start
from the following Monday which is the third Monday. I would appreciate at least a months notice if possible. Should parents not give full two weeks notice then they will be responsible for full fees whether or not the child is attending the program during this time.

In the event of any concerns being raised by parents guardians myself or even the children a meeting will be scheduled to address the issues. The meeting would involve myself, parents/guardians. Concerns would clearly stated such a late payment, daycare policies not being followed, behavioural changes. We would work together to find a solution that is agreeable to all involved. In the case of financial concerns Neil may be involved as he is my partner in the daycare. Should such a meeting be needed families are welcome to bring a support person. All people will be expected to behave in a respectful way to each other.
Custody/Guardianship issues
I am aware that many children have parents that do not live together. In such case of joint custody I do my best to communicate with both parents about their children development and pass on daycare news. For example when I make a news letter I would either e-mail or make a copy for both parents. I would respect each parents confidentiality. I require parents to supply me with copies of agreements and court orders that address matters pertaining to the child/children.
I am not willing to and will not participate in a he said she said battle. I also expect comments and remarks to be kept out of the daycare. Should parents feel a need to talk I can certainly advice to where local counselling services are available.

Indirect supervision
All families that accept care for there children agree to an indirect supervision agreement. This would include children napping in the nap room or playing in the yard with supervision form the house. Children under three years old will always be directly supervised and any child that behaviour indicates they are not ready. I reserve the right make the final decision on which children are ready and which children are not yet ready .
Release of information and confidentiality
No information will be released to a third party with out written consent from the parents. Confidentiality is the responsibility of each and every person the enters the daycare. I ask that should you over hear or over see that would be considered private that as you leave the building you leave it behind you. What is said and seen stays in the building. As parents you also have a responsibility to protect your own privacy be being careful what you say in front of my family or other parents and children.
